Iliad

Our naming
process

In 1991, Xavier Niel bought Fermic Multimedia, a publisher of adult-only telematic services – “Minitel rose” – created in the 1980s.

Xavier Niel asked the agency to rename this publisher, a future major French telecoms group.

Iliad was created by removing the final -e from the name of Homer’s famous epic. Iliad is a universal and timeless name, since the work to which it refers is one of the pillars of Western literature which continuously arouses fascination. The name is a symbol of culture and communication, notions that are essential to the internet world. Last but not least, Iliad is a symbol of dreams and transcendence – the poetry of Homer, the creative spirit of a profession dedicated to anticipating tomorrow’s technologies.
